Stay in a cabin for the event: how to find accommodation near Sweden’s big festivals and races
When Sweden Rock takes over Norje, Vasaloppet fills Dalarna or the equestrian elite lands in Falsterbo, the same thing happens every year: the hotels sell out first, prices shoot up, and thousands of visitors discover too late that "accommodation near the event" is the hardest ticket to get. Meanwhile, cabins a few dozen kilometres away sit waiting — with room for the whole group, their own kitchen and a fraction of the price.
Why a cabin beats a hotel during big events
Big events create a very particular accommodation market: demand increases tenfold for a few days in a place that is quiet the rest of the year. Hotel capacity is built for the quiet baseline, not the peak. The cabin market works the other way around: it is at its largest precisely outside the towns, where the events are rarely more than a drive away.
- Price per person. A cabin for six often costs less per night than a single double room in event week. Split across the group, the difference is dramatic.
- You stay together. The festival crew, the supporter family or the team stays under one roof instead of scattered across three hotels — with a shared breakfast before and the debrief after.
- Your own logistics. A kitchen for packed lunches and water bottles, a washing machine after the rainy day, and your own parking spot to set out from when the shuttle buses run.
- A holiday thrown in. Thirty minutes from the festival site there are swimming lakes, hiking trails and summer idyll waiting. The event becomes part of the trip instead of the whole trip.

Three rules of thumb for event accommodation
- Book early, but don’t give up late. The closest cabins book out months ahead, often the same week tickets go on sale. At the same time, cancellations appear in the final weeks — and keeping an eye on the search catches them.
- Count travel time, not kilometres. Forty kilometres on an open country road is often faster than ten in event traffic. Check where the park-and-ride lots and shuttle buses leave from and look for a cabin near them.
- Read the terms for that specific week. During big events many owners require the full week or at least three nights, and Saturday-to-Saturday is the norm in summer. The event search’s dates are a starting point; feel free to adjust a day in either direction.
