About Vasaloppet

Vasaloppet is the world’s oldest, longest and biggest cross-country ski race, first run in 1922 in memory of Gustav Vasa’s flight through Dalarna in 1520–21. The 90 kilometres from Sälen to Mora still follow the same corridor, and the finish under the motto "In the footsteps of our forefathers, for the victories of tomorrow" is Swedish sport’s most classic.

Race week now spans ten races for every level, from Tjejvasan to the headlamp-lit Nattvasan. The traditions are half the experience: blueberry soup at the checkpoints, the ceremonial wreath hung around winners’ necks, and the church bells of Evertsberg ringing for the skiers.
