About Urkult

Urkult was born in 1994 at the Nämforsen rapids in Näsåker, a place where people have gathered for thousands of years – the rock faces by the rapids hold one of northern Europe’s largest collections of petroglyphs. The festival has grown into Sweden’s leading meeting place for folk and world music, with artists from across the globe on stages above the rushing water.

Most storied is the Fire Night, when torches, fire shows and drums fill the ravines of the rapids. Urkult is run by volunteers, famously child-friendly, and many visitors describe the atmosphere as unlike anything else in Swedish festival life.

Why a cabin works for Urkult
