From forty cars to tens of thousands

The idea was born in 1991, and the first Classic Car Week was held in Rättvik the following year. That opening edition gathered some forty cars.

It has since grown into one of Sweden's largest motoring events, with tens of thousands of visitors and thousands of cars moving along Lake Siljan. The week always falls in week 31, every year since 1992, which makes it one of the few Swedish event weeks you can plan a holiday around far in advance.

What makes Rättvik the place is the cruising. The cars are not parked in a field: they move through the town and along the lake, evening after evening, which is why accommodation in and around Rättvik is the first to go.

About Classic Car Week

Classic Car Week has filled Rättvik with gleaming classics every week 31 since 1992. The highlight is the evening cruises, when thousands of vintage cars roll at walking pace along the Siljan shore while crowds line the roads – a spectacle that makes Rättvik northern Europe’s classic-car capital one week a year.

The week spans exhibitions, swap meets, rockabilly concerts and fifties fashion. The atmosphere is generous: million-krona cars park next to half-finished restoration projects, and owners chat as happily with families as with connoisseurs.

Why a cabin works for Classic Car Week

During week 31 Rättvik becomes a rolling car museum: cruising on route 70, markets, rockabilly and meets from morning to night. The whole Siljan district takes part.

A cabin around lake Siljan — Rättvik, Tällberg, Leksand or Mora — is the classic base: a driveway for the show car, barbecue evenings after the cruise, and Dalarna summer for the family.
