Find the most snow-sure ski cabin: how the Most snow search works
A Swedish winter is no guarantee. In Skåne, Christmas has been green more years than it has been white. In Sälen, the November week can be beyond saving one year and offer knee-deep powder the next. The Most snow search tries to answer the only question that actually matters when you book a ski cabin: was there snow here in the same week over the past five years?
How the Most snow search works
The same engine as Most sun, just pointed the other way. When you pick winter dates and click ❄ Most snow, we fetch:
- Snow depth and solid precipitation. Five years of actual data from Open-Meteo: centimetres of snow on the ground, the amount of snowfall and how many days the temperature stayed below freezing.
- Ranking by region. Lower temperatures + deeper snow = a higher score. The Sälen mountains, Idre Fjäll, Funäsdalen, Vemdalen and Åre almost always come out on top in winter.
- Availability on top. We only show cabins confirmed as available on your dates (from the sources with an open calendar: Stugknuten, Stugnet and Schwedenliebe).

And if you want snow but not skiing?
Nordic ice skating, cross-country skiing, outdoor life in a winter landscape. The Most snow search doesn't care whether it's a slope or open terrain, it only knows the snow is there. For downhill skiing, the top list above is your answer. For cross-country skiing and winter outdoor life, all of northern Norrland is a safe bet: Jokkmokk, Arvidsjaur, Vilhelmina. Quieter, cheaper and often just as white as Sälen.
The STF also keeps several mountain stations open in winter. Abisko, Kebnekaise and Helags are classic winter bases for anyone who wants to combine snow with hiking rather than ski lifts. Read our STF article if you want to know more.
